The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said that the signing of the Libyan ceasefire agreement in Geneva is a fundamental step towards peace and stability in the country, stressing that the implementation of it is the most important issue now.

During a press conference on Friday, Guterres called on all local and regional actors to adhere to and respect the ceasefire and also to ensure its implementation without delay, whilst expressing his hope that the Security Council will adopt this agreement.

He went on to urge the Libyan parties to show strong determination to reach a diplomatic solution to the conflict, to solve economic problems and address the humanitarian situation.
