United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has announced the appointment of Stephanie Williams of the United States as his Special Adviser on Libya to play a role in supporting the holding of the upcoming elections.

A statement issued by the Guterres spokesperson's office Monday said that Williams would lead good offices and mediation efforts and engagements with Libyan regional and international stakeholders to pursue implementation of the Libyan dialogue tracks.

The statement indicated that the mission would work on the political, security, and economic tracks, besides its role in supporting the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya.
