An armed group stormed two power control stations in the city of Khoms on Monday and expelled the engineers who were on duty at the time, before shutting down the stations, The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) confirmed.

The GECOL condemned the ongoing attacks on its stations and staff, stressing that the repetition of such acts could cause instability and even a break down in the electric grid.

Power supplies to the southern region are being restored gradually, after it was cut off for several hours, as a result of a sudden break down of a number of generating units at Zawiya station,GECOL further added.
