The Italian Embassy in Libya revealed that 44 migrants of "special needs" have left Libya to Italy on Thursday, through a new legal humanitarian corridor.

"The migrants left Libya in cooperation with the Italian Interior Ministry, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR in Libya," the embassy clarified in a tweet.

The step aimed to help people in need to reach Italy in safety, away from human traffickers, the embassy explained.
