The Municipal Council of Gharyan has denied news circulated by local media outlets claiming the Council's intention to extend its mandate, stressing its unwillingness to do so.
In a press release, the Municipal Council stated “we have addressed the Ministry of Local Government several times about holding new municipal elections, most recently in July of last year without receiving any response.”
It also explained that its current term expires on April 12, insisting that it is keen on the smooth functioning of the democratic process.
