The Libyan city of Ghadames has been chosen as the Arab heritage city for the year 2016. 

The Association of Arab Media, the organizing body of the contest, announced that Ghadames won the title after having scored 31182 votes ahead of the cities of Samarra of Iraq, Fustat of Egypt, Salt of Jordan, Sousse of Tunisia and Sana’a of Yemen.
