The German Minister of Defense, Annegret Karrenbauer, said that the European Union’s position on Libya is quite weak and that it does not possess the ability to monitor the arms embargo on Libya efficiently.

Karrenbauer said in a speech before the Committee of Experts on Foreign Affairs and Defense at the European Parliament, that she believes that the EU does not have the necessary military forces in the field to effectively monitor the arms flow.

She added that there is currently a very different comprehension of the very real threat to the EU and an extremely in-depth assessment of the role that Russia is playing in the situation.
