The development work at the West Tripoli emergency power station has been suspended as a result of the armed clashes that rocked the area during the past few days, the head of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), Wiam Al-Abdali, has confirmed.

"The technical teams of Enka and Siemens executing the project are preparing a full report on the extent of technical damage done to the project and its impact on the date of delivery," Al-Abdali said.

He noted that the financial value of repairing faults would be high, as a result of damaged components that need to be imported from outside as they don't exist in the local market.

The GECOL head anticipated that the damage caused to the station would also affect the rate of power cuts during the summer.
