The High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, said that France had placed the port of Marseille at the full disposal of Operation IRINI.

Borrell added in a press statement that the port is to be used to offload the cargoes of ships searching the official nautical areas in the Mediterranean, within the framework of monitoring the UN arms embargo on Libya.

Borrell said that he considered that the performance of Operation IRINI had improved dramatically after provision with four warships and four full-time aircraft, pointing to the operation’s documentation of embargo violations by Turkey and Russia, as he put it.
