The Foreign Ministry has explained that Libya's former ambassador to the Central African Republic, Hussein Mahmoud, who declared his defection -which the Foreign Ministry described as an "alleged split"- from the Government of National Accord has completed his term at the embassy for some time, reiterating that he no longer represents Libya and that it has appointed Abdul Majid al-Nuweili as his successor.

In a statement on Friday, the Foreign Minister, Mohamed Sayala called on his Central African counterpart, Sylvie Temon to provide the necessary assistance to the new ambassador, in order to carry out his duties, as the Chargé d'affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Central Africa.

Sources from the Libyan Foreign Ministry said the former ambassador Hussein Mahmoud decided to defect to the eastern parallel government after his request for another term in office was rejected.
