The Foreign Minister of the Presidential Council (PC), Mohammed Sayala said that they had reached out to members of the UK House of Commons, the Libyan delegate to the United Nations and the Arab League to prevent the passing of a law, which gives the British government the authorization to use part of the Libyan assets in order to compensate the families of the Irish Republican Army victims.

Sayala expressed in a press statement his hope that the law will not be passed in the House of Commons, explaining that these funds had been frozen by a Security Council decision for the benefit of the Libyan people.

He also pointed out that the families of the victims have been exerting pressure on the House of Commons in order to pass this law, adding that the British government does not stand with this law for fear of its impact on the investment sector in the country in general.
