Foreign Minister of Presidential Council Mohammed Siyala called for a partial lifting of the arms embargo on Libya in his speech at the "International Conference on Countering Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism" held in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe.

Siyala stressed the need to support Libya's request to the UN Security Council and to enable them to supply specific types of weapons and equipment to combat terrorism and to equip the Presidential Guard and the Coast Guard.

He said that the weapon ban decision imposed on Libya on the pretext to not ignite the civil war has greatly affected its ability to combat terrorist operations, most recently the targeting of the headquarters of the National High Electoral Commission in the capital Tripoli.
