EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Oliver Varhelyi, has stated that the countries of the southern coast of the central Mediterranean region should help their neighbors to combat human smuggling networks, which are sometimes financed by terrorist organizations.

This came during the virtual meeting of the Mediterranean Dialogues Forum, which promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“It is very important to continue working with the Libyan and Tunisian coast guards, as well as to continue expanding our cooperation with Egypt”, Varhelyi added according to the Italian Aki news agency.
