The European Union wants Libya's Presidential Council member, Moussa Al-Koni, to chair the cross-border cooperation conference between Libya and the Sahel, scheduled for next November in Tunis.

According to a statement by the PC information office, Al-Koni received an official request from the EU through its ambassador to Libya, Jose Sabadell, and the Head of the EU Mission for Assistance in Border Management Eupam – Libya, Natalina Cia, during their visit to Tripoli on Tuesday.

The PC noted that the upcoming conference is the first of its kind to intensify cooperation between states of the region to monitor borders and combat cross-border crime and illegal immigration.
