The European Union has extended the sanctions imposed on the former General National Congress President Nuri Abu Sahmain, the head of Salvation Government Khalifa Al-Ghawiel and Speaker of the House of Representatives Aqila Saleh, for an additional six months.

In a statement issued on Friday, the European Union stated that the extension decision was adopted due to the instability of the situation in Libya, which requires restrictive measures against the persons mentioned, according to the statement.

The European Union imposed in March 2016 a travel ban and freezing of assets on Abu Sahmain, Al-Ghawiel and Aqila Saleh, for “obstructing the Libyan political agreement.”

The main rejectionist and spoiler of the political agreement Khalifa Haftar was excluded.
