Spokeswoman for the EU foreign policy chief, Maya Kosyanchich, said that the fate of the Operation Sophia, the EU naval mission targeting human trafficking in the Mediterranean, will be determined by the end of this month.

Kosyanchich explained that discussions had begun on the viability of the process, its tools, and its mandate, among representatives of the member states, without giving further details about the course of these discussions.

She pointed out that the process will continue, despite the suspension of its marine capabilities due to the failure of member states to meet Italy's request to amend its operating system.
