The High Representative of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, along with the foreign ministers of France, Germany and Italy, have called on all parties in Libya to cease all military operations and to engage in the 5 + 5 negotiations, on the basis of the February 23 Berlin agreement.

In a joint statement, the EU and the foreign ministers of the three countries voiced their wish to lead these efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and to achieve the withdrawal of all foreign mercenaries and military equipment which were supplied in direct violation of the UN arms embargo on Libya.

These steps must be achieved in preparation for a comprehensive political agreement, in accordance with the standards agreed at the Berlin conference, according to the statement.
