Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Rola Dashti, has said that the cost of the war that has been going on in Libya for nearly a decade has exceeded 576 billion US dollars.

"The conflicts in the region are causing invaluable loss of life to these countries, and an almost irreversible decline in development gains," the UN official said.

ESCWA also decried the escalating killing of civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories by the Israeli forces, especially in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the need for full commitment to the relevant international law treaties and charters.
