The General Electricity Company (GECOL) said that the continued closure of the oil ports will result in power shortages for up to 12 hours per day in the eastern region, and extend the duration of power cuts in the western region as well.

In a statement via its Facebook page, the GECOL explained that the continuation of this situation will lead to the suspension of most of the generation units in the gas-fired power plants of North Benghazi and Zueitina and will lead to a loss of 1,000 megawatts of their output capacity because the two plants cannot be operated by light fuel.

The oil terminals in the crescent region have been closed by Dignity Operation forces in east Libya since June 25, which led to the closure of many oil fields because “oil storage tanks in the ports are full.”
