The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya, Yacoub El Hillo has considered the cutting of water and electricity supplies to more than two million people in Tripoli a collective punishment, insisting "it must stop immediately".

In a statement published on Friday, El Hillo said that more than two million people, including 600,000 children, who live in Tripoli and surrounding towns and cities, are suffering from water cuts for almost a week now after it was disrupted by a group in the Shwerif area, currently under Haftar's control.

It is noteworthy that a militia loyal to Haftar has closed the Man-made River system and then the gas line feeding the Al-Khums power station, causing the collapse of the network in the western region.
