The Security Council will hold a session on Libya next Wednesday, during which it will hear the report of the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame, on the latest political and security developments and the report of the Ambassador of Sweden, who is the head of the UN Sanctions Committee as set by the resolution number 1970.
A diplomatic source at the Foreign Ministry said that the Libyan side will work to amend the decision to freeze Libyan assets so as not to mean depriving Libya from administrating its assets.
The freezing of these assets costs Libya a loss of about one billion dollars a year, the source added, pointing out that the last country opposed to Libyan efforts is Russia.
The source indicated that efforts to soften the Russian stance have begun, which indicates the possibility of reaching a modification of the resolution, so as to avoid Libya such an annual financial loss.
