A major blackout left the city of Benghazi and other areas in the eastern region with no power, the control room of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) in Benghazi stated.

"The outage was caused by a breakdown in the power units of Ajdabiya-Qamens," the control room explained, stressing that efforts are underway to address the problem and restart the North Power Station of Benghazi.

For its part, Derna Steam Station disclosed that power has been restored to some parts of the region following hours of total darkness.
