Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio has confirmed that “no Italian soldiers will be sent to Libya”, pointing out that “the country no longer needs military forces but rather the December 24 elections”.

The Italian minister explained in a television interview, that it was possible to send Italian soldiers when the former Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, asked Italy to send forces during the attack of the warlord Haftar on Tripoli.

Di Maio warned of the presence of what he described as “saboteurs”, who are trying to undermine the holding of the elections on time, stressing that if the Libyans desire to hold them, Italy will have to help them.
