Libya remains a common concern for Italy and Germany because of the reports coming from the country, the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Italian press, Di Maio noted concern regarding a return to division in Libya after the House of Representatives based in the east assigned a parallel government headed by Fathi Bashaga to replace Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, who leads the GNU appointed by the UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.

The top Italian diplomat said they would remain focused on the southern flank of the European Union and NATO, where instability may be a matter of concern over the next few months.
