The Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, stated that the region is likely to suffer due to instability on the Libyan scene.

On the side-lines of the 5th Festival of Religions, at the Church of San Miniato Al-Monte in Florence, Di Maio explained that the prodigy of terrorism in the African Sahel appears to be completely underestimated.

He stated that Rome had held talks with Cairo on the Libyan situation and the Middle East, as Egypt is one of the parties that possess some form of influence on Libya at this present time, along with the Middle East generally.

Di Maio indicated that in the event of ceasing dialogue with those countries active in the Mediterranean, there could be little to no possibility of success in coming together to face multilateral crisis in the region.
