The Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio called on all Libyan sides to come to an agreement on the issue of the elections, in order to avoid the real risk of the country falling back into violence and conflict.

This statement came on the back of the House of Representatives’ (HoR) decision to withdraw confidence in the Government of National Unity (GNU), on the side-lines of Di Maio’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, according to the Italian news agency, Nova.

Di Maio stated: “The elections are becoming increasingly important, particularly in light of the very real risk of inciting instability or even violence.”
