The December 24 Movement, civil society activists, and political elites in Tobruk have reaffirmed that the holding of elections on time is by ‘popular demand’ and constitutes a democratic right for all citizens of the country.

In a statement addressed to the Presidential Council (PC), the Government of National Unity (GNU), along with the United Nations Support Mission of Libya (UNSMIL) and members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), the movement stated that the people still suffer from many political, economic and social problems, which have affected the abilities of their living not to mention the future of the country and its people.

It also urged the PC and the GNU to hold the general elections on time, stipulating that no more time should be allotted or wasted under any circumstances, according to the statement.
