The commander of EUNAVFOR Med Operation Sophia, an EU operation aiming to curb human smuggling, Enrico Credendino, stated on Thursday that the operation wants to accelerate the expansion of the training of the Libyan Coast Guard to help stop the flow of migrants to Italy, explaining that his operation seeks to train between 300 to 500 new recruits this year.

Enrico pointed out that they had arrested more than 130 people suspected of being human smugglers, who were then passed on to the Italian authorities, adding that Libya's top human smugglers are acting without any reservations and away from the international authorities.
