The Chief of the Illegal Immigration Agency, Brigadier General Mohamed Beshr, has denied any presence of an Italian military base in the southern region for combating illegal migration.

In a statement to an Egyptian newspaper, Saturday, Beshr explained that Italy has provided support to combat illegal immigration, humanitarian and medical assistance.

He added that the number of immigrants in the shelters fell to 4000 ones out of 26 thousand, after most of them were returned to their countries via Libyan airports.

He also denied receiving financial or logistical support from any European country other than Italy, describing it as a close ally.
