The mayor of Sirte, Mukhtar Al-Madani, justified the poor performance of his Municipality to the lack of response by the Presidential Council towards the requests of the municipality, which created a degree of resentment among citizens.

Al-Madani said in a press statement that he did not receive any decision from the Administrative Control Authority to suspend his work, adding that citizens are blaming the mayor for the adverse condition inside the city.

The mayor added that the election of an alternative mayor would not change the situation, explaining that the matter has to do with the government and not the municipality.

Earlier, the Administrative Control Authority issued a decision to suspend Mayor Al-Madani from work, while the Public Reform Movement in Sirte called for the election of a new municipal council for the city.
