US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Sunday discussed efforts to enhance democracy in Libya.

A statement by the US State Department said the two ministers reviewed during a phone call Sunday the outcomes of a recent EU ministerial meeting, the developments in the Russian-Ukraine crisis, and ways to promote the democratic process in Libya. It did not elaborate in detail in this regard.

The US and France, along with five other Western powers, reaffirmed in a joint statement in late December 2021 their intention to hold accountable all those who threaten stability or undermine the political and electoral process in Libya through violence or incitement to violence.
