Prime Minister-designate of the east-based House of Representatives, Fathi Bashagha, has confirmed the resumption of operations at the oil fields and ports that were shut down by a group of protesters last month.

On his Twitter account, Bashagha said, "By the grace of God Almighty, the efforts of the House of Representatives and the Libyan government to reopen the oil fields and ports were crowned with success after the Crescent Petroleum bloc announced its agreement to lift the siege imposed on oil facilities."

A group calling itself the crescent petroleum bloc appeared in a video clip circulated on Tuesday announcing the reopening of oil fields and ports in response to Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh's instructions.

Last month, the NOC declared force majeure on major oil sites after staff at key export terminal Zuetina and the Sharara oil field were blocked from working.
