A group of armed students has closed the gates of Tobruk University in east Libya to protest a decision to appoint a new president for the university and dismiss the former one, Abdulaziz Bouhliqa.

The director of the information office of Tobruk Municipality said that the mayor of Tobruk, Faraj Al-Khattabiya met Friday with the new president and agreed to open the university so that students can take the exams.

Social media pages circulated images of youths closing the university gates with iron chains and writing the word "suspended" on the university's walls, while the university did not issue any clarification about the incident.
