Amnesty International called on the United Nations Human Rights Council to take important steps towards ending impunity in Libya.

The organization demanded countries meeting in Geneva next week in the Human Rights Council to set an international investigation mechanism as a first step, towards holding perpetrators of the "horrific human rights violations" in Libya, as it put it.

"The situation in Libya is deteriorating, as civilians bear the brunt of the crimes committed by armed groups since 2011," Heba Morayef, director of Amnesty International in the Middle East and North Africa, has explained.
