The Algerian ambassador to Italy Abdelkarim Tawaheriya said the December 24, 2021 date for Libya elections was a shot in the dark, adding to Italian Nova news agency that Libya is a point of understanding and agreement between Italy and Algeria.

The ambassador added that Algeria has no intention to influence how things go in Libya, saying his country respects the right of Libyans to choose their leadership.

He also said that Libya’s problem is with foreign intervention and mercenaries’ presence on Libyan soil, indicating that Libyans need to give concessions to one another to find a national consensus.
