Algeria has appointed former parliament speaker Suleiman Shnin as ambassador extraordinary to Libya.

A statement by the Algerian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that the Libyan government had agreed to accredit Suleiman Shnin as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the State of Libya.

The extraordinary ambassador enjoys expanded legal powers, including signing agreements in the name of the state or body he represents, to which the ordinary ambassador is not entitled.

Shnin will succeed Ambassador Kamal Abdel Qader Hegazy, who has held the position since 2019.
