Libya’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), Taher Al-Sunni, called on the Security Council (SC) to accelerate the preparation of a needs assessment team for elections to Libya, in order to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process.

In an official briefing before the SC on Friday, Al-Sunni called on the international community to participate in the international conference called by the Government of National Unity (GNU), to implement the Libya Stability Initiative, which is based on the outcomes of the Berlin Conference and SC resolutions.

Al-Sunni reiterated the relevance of recognizing the solution to the crisis by being officially led by Libya, to ensure the exit of all mercenaries and foreign forces from the country simultaneously and under the strict supervision of the Libyan state, stressing the necessity to establish a joint system to make certain that the conflict does not migrated to neighbouring countries, particularly those of the African coast, as he put it.
