The Libyan Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour said his office is investigating violations and crimes committed by Al-Kaniyat militia leaders and members since 2017, adding that the Public Prosecution has taken measures that include arrests of several of the militia leaders on November 13, 2017.

Al-Sour added in a meeting with Interior Deputy Minister, Tarhouna security directorate's chief and the head of steering committee of Tarhouna municipality, that this case is highly significant for the dangerous violations it contains.

He said his office had been trying to use all legal means to do right by the victims' families, adding that several Public Prosecution deputies are working on the case reiterating the need for boosting the issue of compensation procedures against the perpetrators of crimes with the participation of victims' families in the process and allowing DNA testing of the victims and matching the results with family members to take place in internationally recognized laboratories.
