The Minister of Defense in the Government of National Accord (GNA), Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush, said that he had advised the Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, to seek the assistance of France in the matter of the detention of 18 Sicilian fishermen, presently being held in Benghazi, adding that Paris could intervene positively in the case.

During his visit to Rome last Friday, Al-Namroush indicated that French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, would appear to enjoy good relations with Haftar, according to a report by Il Giornale newspaper.

The detention of Italian sailors dates back to September 01, when two Sicilian fishing boats, named Antartide and Medinea, were seized by Libyan patrol boats that accused them of fishing in Libyan territorial waters and from there were transferred to Benghazi in eastern Libya, which is controlled by Haftar.
