An Afriqiyah Airways plane made an emergency landing on Wednesday in Cairo Airport due to extreme weather conditions.

The flight was en route between Benina Benghazi and Alexandria when the captain decided to ground the plane at Cairo Airport because of bad weather, the Afriqiyah Airways said in a statement on Facebook.

All passengers are safe, but they had to stay aboard the plane until the weather conditions improved and the flight resumed its course.

The airline explained that this was due to the Egyptian authorities' ban on Libyan airlines to land or use Cairo airport.
