The United States AFRICOM commander Thomas Waldhauser accused Russia of seeking to reinforce its presence in Libya.

"Russia is forging ties with the Presidential Council and at the same time with its rival Khalifa Hafter," Waldhauser said, accusing Moscow of seeking access to Libyan oil and to activate arms sales.

He also warned of Russia's presence in the Mediterranean Sea coastal areas, saying that this will endanger the southern borders of Europe, as he put it, according to CNN.
