The Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, Smaїl Chergui said that the recent developments in Tripoli force us to reconsider the Libyan situation, which seems to be heading toward a real war, as he put it.

Chergui warned in a statement, Saturday, of a long war that would be costly in terms of the loss of human lives and in destabilizing the whole region, in particular, the African coast.

He also expressed hope that the international community and the Security Council would respond to calls rejecting plunging Libya with weapons, as described.
