51 members of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) called for approving the draft constitution that was devised by the Constitution Drafting Assembly for one presidential and parliamentary term, saying the upcoming "Shura Council" should consider necessary amendments two years after it is formed.

In a statement Wednesday, the members said this proposal came to meet the short time deadline for elections and because of the fragile security and institutional situation amid the possibility of hindrances to the holding of constitutional referendum on the draft constitution before December elections.

The HoR members, including the first deputy speaker Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, called for referendum on the amended draft constitution by the second quarter of the fourth and last year of the "Shura Council" term and then annul all other constitutional documents that came before it.
