The Kufra Ambulance and Emergency Service has announced the recovery of 20 bodies of irregular migrants, all of whom died of thirst after their car broke down in the middle of the desert on the Chadian-Libyan border.

The agency stated that the car carrying the migrants left Chad into Libya and was found 310 km south of Kufra and 120 km from the Chadian-Libyan border.

The agency indicated that all the bodies were transferred to the city of Kufra, where legal due process is being taken to initiate their burial in the presence of the Public Prosecution and officers from a police station.

This incident is not new, as migrants transiting Europe through Libya are exposed to several risks, including death in the desert of thirst or at sea by drowning.
