The Libyan naval forces successfully rescued 182 immigrants of varying nationalities off the Libyan coast, whilst they attempted to make their way to European shores on a rubber dinghy.

“Within the framework of humanitarian efforts and sovereign duties to protect the Libyan coast and provide efficient search and rescue services in the Libyan areas of responsibility, our crews successfully rescued 182 illegal immigrants.” A spokesman for the Libyan Naval Forces Chief of Staff said, in a statement on Saturday.

According to the statement, the immigrants were safely disembarked at the Tripoli Naval Base, from where they were transferred to the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency to follow up on their individual cases.
