The Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation into claims concerning the lack of oxygen supply at Misrata isolation centre.

The Public Prosecution confirmed in a statement, it had interrogated those in charge of the center and assessed the oxygen system at the facility.

According to the statement, the preliminary investigations revealed a leak in the oxygen system, which was not dealt with properly, saying that the measures undertaken lacked the basic security and safety standards.

The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of several individuals whom it said have "failed and neglected to perform the duties assigned to them."

It also confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to clarify the obstacles that prevented the regular and steady functioning of the isolation centre.

On Friday, Misrata Medical Centre announced that it had dismantled the recently installed oxygen tank and transferred it to the isolation center at the National Cancer Institute to fill the oxygen deficit in that facility, in coordination with the Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity.
