The Monitoring and Investigation Department of the National Centre for Disease Control has raised the level of preparedness to deal with the possibility of the transmission of cholera from Algeria to Libya, especially in border areas.

The department called on early warning program coordinators, rapid response teams, and hospital monitors to take care and caution from persons coming from Algeria and to inquire about their health status in the event of any symptoms of the disease.

The department also emphasized the obligation to report any suspicious case, confirming that it will be on call 24 hours a day to receive any reports of cases.

Algeria has officially announced the second case of cholera death in Blida province west of the capital of Algeria. It also confirmed the occurrence of dozens of cholera cases in four other provinces.
