The mosquitoes that are now spread across Tripoli are not infectious and transmit no diseases; rather they are just a typical outbreak of insects that follow rainfalls, media office’s head of the health minister Widad Bu Al-Niran said.

She added on Twitter that the mosquitoes’ bites cause superficial rash and swellings that last from 3 to 4 days, advising certain medications for the cases that last longer.

She added that the National Center for Disease Control will start Sunday anti-mosquitoes’ biocide campaign, saying similar outbreak of the “bothering mosquitoes” took place in 2016 coming from Europe in fall times.

Several Tripoli districts have been invaded with “giant” mosquitoes, larger than the normal one, with a number of mosquito bites that caused superficial skin infections were reported.
