The National Center for Disease Control in cooperation with the University of Misurata, and Sada newspaper, held a seminar for the health-sector workers on the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), on Sunday.

The seminar was opened with an address by the director of the National Center for Disease Control, Misurata branch, Dr. Khaled Shetewi, in which he reviewed the measures taken by the relevant authorities to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in Libya. This included allocating medical teams at the arrival ports throughout Libya to examine all arriving passengers from regions and countries where the coronavirus is prevalent.

For his part, Dr. Muhammad Al-Faqih, the national coordinator of the center's monitoring and investigation program, shed light on the disease surveillance network implemented by the centre.

"The network gathers reports of diagnosed influenza cases, from medical centers and hospitals. All of this information can be used by the National Centre for Disease Control to search for hints of undiagnosed COVID-19," Dr. Al-Faqih explained.

Chairman of the Communication and Health Information Committee of the National Center for Disease Control Dr. Muhammad Al-Jazawi provided medical workers with an update on the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, the treatment guidelines, and how to protect themselves when dealing with infected people.
