The Minister of Health, Ali Al-Zanati, on Saturday, met with the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in southern Libya, Radhia Jadawi to discuss the difficulties and solutions to the problems facing the health sector in the region.

The meeting, which took place at the ministry's HQ in Tripoli, discussed the need to lay the groundwork for cooperation between Libya and the WHO, according to a statement by the Health Ministry.

Al-Jadawi reaffirmed that the organization is a permanent essential partner for the health sector in Libya.

For his part, Al-Zanati stressed that the health situation in the southern region is a top priority for his team, especially the pandemic issue, indicating he will pay an urgent visit to the south to assess the situation first-hand.

The health situation in the south continues to deteriorate, especially in light of the coronavirus crisis.

In the past few days, Sabha, the capital of the southern region, was placed back under a full lockdown because of the rapidly increasing Covid-19 infections in the city.
